Rain hasn't come in 6 months. Red Dust Storm men on horses take Lugh. Saba and Emmi travel after burning their house with Pa in it. They leave Emmi with Mercy. Emmi follows Saba anyway. She is picked up by the Pinch family who wants to force Saba to cagefight. She talks to Helen in the nexst cell and learns more. Then, she meets Maev, who Is part of the Free Hawks.During exercise time Saba and Jack meet. Theycome up with a plan to rescue the fighters.The Hawks burn Hopetown and Saba rescues Jack. The Pinchs, cagemaster and the king follow then and crash. Saba searchesfor Lugh. Ash and Espona follow. They meet Ike and Tommo before fighting the Hellwurms. Finally, they make it to Freedom Fields and rescue Lugh. Saba kills Epona out of mercy. The characters lose Emmi.but then they kill the king and he dies for real. Ike dies so Saba, Lugh, and Emmi decide to take Tommo under their wing. They choose to head West after Jack leaves them.
The main characters include:
ReplyDeleteSaba: the protagonist and narrator of the story. She leaves behind her sister to find her brother after he is kidnapped.
Lugh: Saba's twin brother who is captured by a group of robed men on horseback called the Tonton for a sacrificial ritual.
Emmi: Lugh and Saba's little sister. She follows her sister after she leaves her with an old family friend to keep her safe and proves to be of great help to Saba through their hardships in their travels to rescue Lugh.
Mercy: An old family friend who informs Saba of a possible place the Tonton men may have taken Lugh and is left with Emmi after Saba leaves.
Nero: Saba's pet bird
Vicar Pinch(the Sun King): Ruler of the colonized lands and keeps control of the slaves in his fields by force of the Tonton and under the influence of drugs. He has a special fascination in Lugh in that sacrificing him, since he was born a twin in midwinter, will make him more powerful as a king.
Miz Pinch and Rooster Pinch: Parents of Vicar Pinch. They capture Saba in hopes they will make good money betting on her cage-fighting skills.
DeMalo: Vicar Pinch's right hand man and enforcer.
Free Hawks: Large population of girls that Saba helps to terrorize a town where she was forced to cage fight and in return for her help they befriend her and a few members help her on her quest to rescue her brother.
Jack: A thief and male cage fighter that Saba meets while she is forced to fight for her survival. She later ends up saving his life and eventually becomes her love interest.
